Day 10: Clairseville, OH to New York, NY

High: Getting the first glimpse of fall as all the trees in PA are beginning to change color. 

Low: Losing the lid to my favorite thermos... hopefully I'll find it during the unpacking process. 

High: Getting settled in New York for a weekend of hanging out with Chris, Sarah, and Eric.

High: Visiting all my favorite childhood spots in Wheeling, West Virginia (the town where my parents grew up). 

Low: My favorite spots being full of strangers instead of the beloved relatives I used to visit.

Day 8: Memphis, TN to Louisville, KY

High: Enjoying a delicious cappuchino Ken made me instead of the crappy motel coffee I've been drinking. 

Low: Fighting all day with my Tesla navigation system. 

High: Riding through Nashville with the windows down, hearing the live music, and seeing what the scene is all about. There's definitely going to be a return trip in my future!

High: Walking along the Mississippi River with Ken and Lanie and enjoying my first ever Mempop. 

Low: The lack of good coffee available in Sikeston, MO. 

High: Visiting with Ken (Lanie's dad) while enjoying the Lanie-Sarah Reunion.

High: Visting Lanie (the girl I nannied off-an-on for 5 years in California) in her new home in Memphis.

Day 6: Columbia, MO to Sikeston, MO

Miles: 255

Hours: 4.5

Brenda's Highs and Lows

High: Sipping chai and watching the Tiger fans make their way to the stadium for game day. 

Low: A less-than-great hotel for the night. 

High: Trying all the local Missourian cuisine (i.e. fried ravioli, gooey butter cake, and throwed rolls). 

Sarah's Highs and Lows

High: Wandering the aisles of a local Columbian bookshop and discovering old copies of A Wrinkle in TIme, The Giver, and The Hobbit to gift Lanie (more on that in Day 7).

DAY 5: Colby, KS to Columbia, MO

Miles: 498

Hours: 10.5

Brenda's Highs and Lows

High: I was able to drive across the plains of Kansas going above the speed limit (just a little bit) without any range anxiety. 

Low: Spending SO many hours in the car. 

High: Dining outside while enjoying a bottle of rose and hours of engaging conversation with my niece and daughter. 

Sarah's Highs and Lows

High: Discovering a hidden waterfall park behind one of our supercharger stations. 

Low: Kansas. 

High: Talking religion, politics, and everythin...

DAY 3: Midvale, UT to Grand Junction, CO

Miles: 282

Hours: 8.5

Brenda's Highs and Lows

High: Gazing at the rock formations at Arches National Park and imaging mythical origins for what felt like a giant's playground. 

Low: Not being able to buy wine in Target. What's up with this state? 

High: Taking Mowgli for a walk along the Colorado River and Duke Lake.  

Sarah's Highs and Lows

High: Witnessing the stunning beauty of Arches and falling in love with Balanced Rock.

DAY 2: Lake Tahoe, CA to Midvale, UT

Miles: 570

Hours: 11

Tesla Charging Stops: 4

Brenda's Highs and Lows

High: Retracing the Nevada leg of Chris and Matt's Bike Ride Across America. 

Low: Never actually seeing a prison break, even though our entire route was lined with signs that read: "PRISON AREA: HITCHHIKING PROHIBITED". 

High: Watching Sarah witness the salt flats and come to the realization that that's why Salt Lake City has "salt" in the name. 

Sarah's Highs and Lows

High: Waking up in time to enjoy a stunning farewell sunrise over Lake Tahoe.
