PLACES TO GO & THINGS TO SEE

Palm fronds drifted past the boat as our ferryman, known only as El Gato to me, guided us gently around mini-whirlpools in the brown river. El Gato hummed to himself, the only noise audible over the water’s rush. We drifted down the winding river, advancing deeper into the Amazon Rainforest. The morning fog dissipated to reveal the small Peruvian pueblo where three leaders had recently been charged for kidnapping an expat. When the boat docked on the sand bar it sank in: I was in way over my head.

My recommendation to anyone spending two days on the Isle of Skye would be to just drive. Worry less about where you are going and just go. There are like three roads on the island, so you can't get lost, and regardless of where you drive, you are bound to find something truly beautiful.

I had a fairly humble bucket list upon moving to Edinburgh; I wanted to see the sites that inspired J.K. Rowling to write Harry Potter, learn to like whisky, visit the highlands. My dad used to get angry with me for playing barefoot in the rain in the dead of winter. And no matter how cold the day, if I see fresh water, I am going to jum...

My life philosophy is simple: say yes whenever possible. When presented with a new adventure, I ask myself a few simple questions: Am I physically capable? Am I mentally able? Do I want to? Can I afford it? Is it (probably) safe? If the answer is yes, I say yes. Kayaking in Gozo soared through the test and before long, I was on a little red Kayak in the middle of the ocean with my guide, Ted, and fellow adventurer, Rich, on our way to El Comino Island.

This blog is the story of an adventurer. But what is adventure anyway?

There are some travel experiences that stick with you. I have a feeling finding the Northern Lights in Iceland will forever be one of those experiences.

And why I will go back to the Oregon Country Fair as soon as possible.
