Spending a Few Nights in Paradise

15.01.2016

When I arrived at Asclepios Wellness and Healing Retreat, I'm fairly certain my jaw dropped to the (gorgeous tiled) floor. Before I even got passed check-in I was convinced I had found paradise. As it turns out, I was right.

Life doesn't get much better than this

Located in Alajuela, just a few miles north of San Jose, is this hidden oasis. The property looks out on uninterrupted nature and every inch of Asclepios was designed to take your breath away.

When I wasn't lounging by the pool sipping fresh fruit juice, you could find me sitting in awe on my balcony or meandering around the luscious resort grounds.

Beauty and nature were definitely themes of my stay at Asclepios, but if I had to pick one word to describe my experience it would be comfort.

From the cloud-like beds to the fluffy lounge chairs, there wasn't a minute of my time at Asclepios when I felt uncomfortable. Except for maybe when my shoulders were the color of a lobster shell, but that was my own doing.

Service that will make you feel like royalty

Maybe it's because I was one of three guests when I arrived, but I felt like the staff was pampering me.

Every time I sat down someone appeared with fresh spa water. In the afternoon they brought me the menu, took my order, and asked me what time I wanted to eat. When I arrived at the restaurant, the fresh and delicious food would be ready to be served.

By the end of day one I was intensely relaxed. I even decided to use my Christmas money (thanks Grandma and Grandpa) to treat myself to a chocolate body wrap. The treatment was fantastic... though my bar is relatively low seeing as the last spa treatment I got was $10 in a Thai warehouse... and once again the attention of the staff made me feel spoiled rotten.

All in all, it's great if you can afford it

As an adventure/budget traveler I don't usually get to stay at places like Asclepios. I felt beyond lucky to be there and was blown away by all of it. If I'm ever rich, I'll definitely be back.

Because of my budget, I didn't get to take full advantage of the place. But for those with a higher budget than mine, I recommend it whole-heartedly.

There are fitness classes, spa treatments,  an organic restaurant, and day tours galore. If you are seeking a relaxing retreat in Costa Rica where you can restore and detox, Asclepios is the place for you.
